Happy 100th Birthday, Dr.James Tin Yau So

Happy 100th Birthday, Dr.James Tin Yau So!  July 14, 2011!

Dr. So, Father of Acupuncture in America, was born on July 14, 1911. According to Chinese astrology, he was born in the year of the Metal Pig.  After a full and rich life, he died in August, 2001 at age 90.   There is a Chinese tradition that when a famous person (living or not)  has their 100 th birthday, people  travel from all over the country and/or the world to celebrate and honor him or her with banquets, testimonials, and festivities.

This July 14, 2011, New England School of Acupuncture, NESA, Newton, Massachusetts, will hold a 100 th birthday celebration for their founder, Dr.James Tin Yau So.  In 1975, he began NESA, the first licensed school of Acupuncture  in the USA.

Many of his students have gone on to found some of the most well known acupuncture schools (all still in operation), be involved, and/or engaged in the governing of Acupuncture in the USA, introduce legislation,  teach in some of the top educational facilities and hospitals, and partcipate in ground breaking research.  His legacy lives on through his students. He always said to us, ‘I teach you everything”.  And he really, really, tried.

 We love you, Dr. So!

Your loving student,

Dr.Marsha Woolf

“You taught me courage”.
